This week, White County Public Safety collaborated with the 4th Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team of the Georgia National Guard to conduct a practical training exercise that centered on some of the most severe situations that crews may encounter.
The course addressed nuclear, biological, radiological, and chemical hazard detection and response. Using cutting-edge tools, protective gear, and transportable lab equipment, National Guard specialists collaborated with local firemen and emergency responders to replicate real-world situations. In a simulated laboratory, a technician examines potentially dangerous items. Although it’s tempting to believe that such a scenario would never occur here, officials advise being prepared. Risks are not limited to large cities. Chemical spills from vehicles, hazardous drug labs, and unidentified compounds in public buildings have all happened in rural regions like White County in recent years.
This type of training results from readiness rather than fear. In the event of an emergency, local workers are now better coordinated and have greater experience. The CST’s mobile communications and analysis vehicle is used to log data. (Image: White County Public Safety/Bryce Barrett)
Responders here won’t be taken by surprise if a significant incident ever makes it to our neighborhood. They will be prepared to take action, defend, and maintain community safety.
