Travis Turner, the chairman of the White County Commission, has been reappointed to the position of chair of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG), also referred to as Georgia’s County Association, General County Government Policy Committee.
ACCG President and Dougherty County Commissioner Clinton Johnson appointed Turner. Alongside recently chosen Vice Chair Dan Perdue, Houston County chairman, he will continue to serve as the committee’s leader.
“Remaining Chair of the General County Government Policy Committee is an honor,” Turner stated. This group is essential to the development of laws that improve municipal government throughout our state.
The organization of county government and its interactions with constitutional authorities, courts, and other governmental levels are the main concerns of the General County Government Committee. Additionally, it covers topics like home rule, ethics, elections, planning and zoning, and service delivery.
“Advocacy is a foundational aspect of our organization, and our policy committee leaders are essential to our advocacy efforts,” said ACCG Executive Director Dave Wills, praising the significance of policy committee leaders.
The policy committees of ACCG establish the organization’s official policy priorities through a cooperative, consensus-based approach. These priorities serve as the foundation for the association’s legislative advocacy work on behalf of Georgia counties.
