White County schools will continue free student meals

As part of a federally financed program, students in White County’s public schools will continue to get free breakfast and lunches next year.

Families no longer need to apply for free or reduced-price meals thanks to the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). By doing this, the stigma associated with pupils receiving dietary help is removed, and administrative and printing expenses are reduced.

According to a news release from the school system, children need healthy meals in order to learn.

Additionally, the program streamlines meal service operations and removes outstanding meal charges, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

A minimum of 25% of pupils in a school district must receive nutritional assistance outside of school in order to qualify for the program. This covers initiatives like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

White County and a number of other counties in Northeast Georgia, including Banks, Clarke, Elbert, Franklin, Habersham, Hart, Madison, Rabun, Towns, and Union, provided free meals to kids last year.
