The construction of a new fire station on White County’s northern end of Duncan Bridge Road has been planned for some time.
The Cleveland-based Precision United’s plan to build a three-bay fire department facility for $1,724,909 was approved by the White County Board of Commissioners on Monday.
Precision United President Dylan Lee informed the commission board that since they have been assembling this project, inflation and tariffs have increased the construction cost by $200,000.Dylan Lee, President of Precision United (Dean Dyer/WRWH.com)
Sunny Circle and Duncan Bridge Road will be the intersection of the new fire station. Craig Bryant, a District 4 Commissioner, stated, “It’s been a long time coming, and I’m just thankful that we can pull the project together finally to help out the citizens on that side of town.” The county bought the land for the station in 2022.
According to Commission Chairman Travis Turner, this project will not be funded by the general fund. Our SPLOST funds are the only source of funding for this construction project. Ladies and gentlemen, we all paid an additional penny, increasing our percentage from six to seven percent. Turner said, “This will be fully funded by our SPLOST dollars, which is a fantastic use of those dollars for capital improvements.”
According to Lee, the project is scheduled to begin construction on or around September 1.
Once constructed, this will improve the area’s fire coverage and should result in significant fire insurance savings for homeowners.
