On Thursday, July 31, the White County Board of Education authorized a complete rollback millage rate for the education component of White County property taxes during their regular meeting.
This year’s school tax millage rate will drop from 11.884 mills to 11.725 mills as a result of the rollback.History of the Education Tax Millage Rate (Dean Dyer/WRWH.com)
“I believe this shows the wise decision that this board, along with the superintendent and our financial director, Lauren Anderson, have made with our finances,” said Missy Jarrard, chair of the White County Board of Education, after the millage rate approval. “I hope that this is a little way of showing the community how we are doing all we can to take very good care of the taxpayers money.”
When outlining the budget, school finance director Lauren Anderson informed the board that instruction would receive 60% of the funds and that there was a strong fund balance in case it became necessary to cover funding demands throughout the year.
