Ga.’s Blairsville. The grand opening of a brand-new visitor center at one of the country’s oldest state parks is scheduled for celebration. At 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, Vogel State Park in Georgia will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The event, which will take place at the park’s new lakefront facility at 405 Vogel State Park Road, is open to the public.
State Parks and Historic Sites Director Angie Johnson and Commissioner Walter Rabon of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will be among the speakers, emphasizing the park’s history and the significance of this new development for Georgia’s outdoor enjoyment.
Located next to picturesque Lake Trahlyta, the 6,500-square-foot visitor center will be the primary gathering place for the thousands of hikers and nature enthusiasts that visit the park every year. The center’s rustically charming design honors the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), whose efforts during the Great Depression contributed to the creation of Vogel State Park.
In addition to a modern interior with a gift store selling literature, clothing, hiking gear, camping necessities, souvenirs, and grab-and-go meals, guests will appreciate a large front porch with views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
Parking costs $5. Visit GaStateParks.org/vogelor or give them a call at 706-745-2628.
