Violence Erupts at Times Square Subway Station; Man Hit Over Head with Bottle

NEW YORK —

The NYPD is investigating after a man was bashed over head with bottle at a Times Square subway station early Friday.

It happened at about 1:34 a.m. near the booth area at the 42nd Street Times Square station on the A/C/E lines.

According to officials, a 41-year-old man was struck in the head multiple times with a bottle following a dispute.

He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals / Bellevue in stable condition.

There have been no arrests made and police are looking for a man wearing a gray shirt and gray pants.

The attack happened just hours after an on-duty MTA conductor was punched in the face unprovoked at the 42nd Street-Grand Central station.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred during the evening rush hour when a confrontation escalated quickly between two individuals. The victim was reportedly hit with a bottle, sustaining a head injury. Emergency medical personnel arrived promptly and transported the injured man to a nearby hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed.

Police officers responded to the scene and launched an immediate investigation. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to identify and apprehend the suspect involved in the assault.

“This kind of violence is unacceptable, especially in a busy public transit hub,” said a spokesperson for the New York Police Department. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of all commuters and will pursue all leads to bring the perpetrator to justice.”

The Times Square subway station is one of the city’s busiest transit centers, with thousands of passengers passing through daily. Incidents like this raise concerns about safety and the need for increased security measures.

Commuters at the station expressed shock and concern following the attack. “I never expected something like this to happen here,” said one bystander. “It’s scary to think about how quickly things can turn violent.”

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the NYPD.
