A tentative labor agreement has been reached between the grocery chain and the union that represents over 2,000 Gelson’s Market employees throughout Southern California, the union stated Wednesday.
The United Food and Commercial Workers union stated in a statement that the agreement will secure increased salaries, more funding for pension contributions, more health and welfare enhancements, staffing, and more, though specifics were not made public.
According to a statement from the union’s bargaining committee, “this victory was only possible because of our hard work and solidarity with our co-workers, our customers, and our union siblings at Ralphs, Vons, Albertsons, Pavilions, and Stater Bros.” We reached this position thanks to every pledge card and petition we signed, delegation we took part in, social media post we shared, client we interacted with, and event we attended. Our triumph sends a strong message to workers everywhere: we succeed when we unite in solidarity.
