Undercover drug bust nets $44K in meth, two arrests in Hall County

Gainesville, Ga. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said Thursday that two males from Gainesville were arrested and that over a pound of methamphetamine was seized as a result of a month-long undercover investigation.

Investigators from the HCSO Special Investigations Unit set up a meth purchase with one of the suspects on June 25. Deputies pulled over the suspect’s car on Atlanta Highway following the transaction.

Pedro Leonel Cortez, 41, and Antonio Gonzales, 38, were in the vehicle. Deputies found 589 grams of methamphetamine, which is believed to be worth $44,175 on the black market, according to HCSO.

Both males were accused by the authorities with methamphetamine trafficking and possession with intent to distribute. In connection with the purported undercover purchase, they also accused Cortez of selling methamphetamine. Cortez, a Mexican native, is also detained by immigration authorities.

Gonzales was also accused of failing to register a change of address as a sex offender and breaking probation.

Both males are being held without bond at the Hall County Jail.
