Washington (AP) In response to the governor of Maryland’s invitation to accompany him on a tour of Baltimore, President Donald Trump on Sunday threatened to extend his military deployments to additional Democratic-led cities, stating that he might instead send in the troops.
Trump stated last week that he was thinking about deploying troops to Chicago and New York in a manner akin to what he has unleashed on the nation’s capital, where thousands of federal law enforcement officials and members of the National Guard are patrolling the streets.
In a dispute with Maryland Governor Wes Moore, a Democrat who has chastised Trump for his unheard-of abuse of federal authority to fight homelessness and crime in Washington, Trump threatened Baltimore. Last week, Moore invited Trump to come to his state to talk about public safety and on a street tour.
According to Trump’s Truth Social post on Sunday, Moore asked in a pretty offensive and inflammatory manner before threatening to replicate the National Guard deployment he carried out in Los Angeles over Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom of California’s protests.
Trump added, citing a derogatory nickname he frequently uses for the California governor, “Wes Moore’s crime record is a very bad one, unless he fudges his figures on crime like many of the other Blue States are doing.” However, I will send in the military, which are currently being sent in nearby DC, and swiftly clear up the crime if Wes Moore needs assistance, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A.
Moore claimed that Trump seemed to love living in blissful ignorance about lowering Baltimore’s crime rates, which is why he invited him to Maryland.
Moore claimed on Sunday’s episode of CBS’s Face the Nation that the president is wasting all of his time on me. Talking about the people I serve is how I spend my time.
Trump claimed Chicago and New York are probably his next targets after launching a surge of National Guard troops and federal law enforcement officials into Washington this month. Democratic leaders in both states strongly objected. The Pentagon has spent weeks preparing for an operation in Chicago that would involve National Guard troops and possibly active military forces, according to a Saturday Washington Post article.
The White House cited Trump’s prior remarks expressing his intention to increase the use of military forces to combat local crime when questioned about the Post report.
Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday, “I think Chicago will be our next,” and added, “We’ll help with New York after that.”
Trump has frequently called some of the biggest cities in the country, which are majority-minority, governed by Democrats, and have Black mayors, dirty, and dangerous. Both Moore and Brandon Scott, the mayor of Baltimore, are Black. There are also Black mayors of New York and the District of Columbia.
Speaking at a religious gathering on Sunday at Washington’s Howard University, the Rev. Al Sharpton claimed that the Guard’s presence in the nation’s capital was about profiling us rather than committing crimes.
He went on to tell reporters that this is rife with prejudice and bigotry. There isn’t a single white mayor. Additionally, I believe that this is a race, civil rights, and D.C. statehood problem.
Democratic governor of Illinois JB Pritzker stated that there is no emergency that calls for the National Guard to send troops to Chicago.
To divert attention from the suffering he is inflicting families, Donald Trump is trying to create a crisis, politicize Americans who serve in uniform, and keep abusing his position of authority. Pritzker wrote about X. We will continue to protect Illinoisans, uphold the law, and defend our state’s sovereignty.
