Tropical Storm Chantal makes landfall in South Carolina

Early on Sunday, Tropical Storm Chantal touched down close to Litchfield Beach, South Carolina. Through Monday, the storm is expected to bring significant rainfall to certain areas of the Carolinas.

From the South Santee River to Surf City, North Carolina, a Tropical Storm Warning is still in force. Through Sunday morning, tropical storm conditions are predicted to persist. Residents of South Carolina were alerted by the state’s Emergency Management division to the potential for minor coastal flooding and isolated tornadoes along the coast.

Over the course of the next day or so, Chantal is predicted to produce potentially fatal surf and rip currents from northeastern Florida to the Mid-Atlantic states. Lifeguards and municipal authorities advise beachgoers to follow their recommendations.
