Tristan Rogers, longtime ‘General Hospital’ star, dies at 79

The long-running, intermittent role of Robert Scorpio on the ABC soap opera General Hospital made Australian actor Tristan Rogers famous. He passed away on Friday at the age of 79.

About a month after his publicist revealed the actor had been diagnosed with cancer, manager Meryl Soodak confirmed his death to ABC7.

Rogers passed away from lung cancer, Soodak said ABC7, adding that he had never smoked.

Soodak told the station that he loved being Scorpio and that he made the persona up out of nothing. Despite just having a day to work, he managed to turn it into something enormous. He adored his family and was a truly devoted and compassionate person.

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Rogers first played Scorpio on General Hospital from 1980 until the character’s demise in 1992. But in typical soap opera fashion, he reappeared in spirit form a few years later, then made another appearance in person in 2006 and kept doing so intermittently over the years.

Additionally, Rogers made a fleeting appearance on The Young and the Restless.

In addition to appearing in shows like Fast Track, The Bay, and Studio City, he provided the voice of the animated movie The Rescuers Down Under.

Teresa Parkerson, Rogers’ wife, and their two grown children, Sara and Cale, survive him.
