Tree fire spreads to power lines in Logan Heights; outage reported

On Saturday, firefighters extinguished a palm tree fire in Logan Heights that resulted in the explosion of electricity wires and an outage.

At nine in the morning on Saturday, the fire at South 30th Street and Ocean View Boulevard was reported. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, one home was evacuated, but no injuries or other structural damage were recorded.

According to fire officials, San Diego Gas & Electric was contacted and the cause of the fire is being investigated. According to the SDG&E website, 50 customers were impacted by an outage that occurred in Logan Heights, Lincoln Park, and Mountain View.

“Our crews are currently on the scene making repairs after a tree came into contact with our electric system,” SDG&E said.

The website stated that power would be restored by 8 p.m. on Saturday.
