Toddler killed in tragic driveway accident in Northeast Georgia

A one-year-old child died Thursday evening in a heartbreaking accident involving a family vehicle in Elbert County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, troopers from Post 52 in Hartwell responded to a single-vehicle crash on private property shortly before 6 p.m. on June 19. The incident occurred in a driveway where a silver 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was backing up.

Investigators say the toddler approached the vehicle on the driver’s side as it was reversing. The driver, unaware of the child’s presence, struck the child with the front left tire. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

State troopers say there is no indication of driver impairment, and no charges are expected to be filed.

According to Sgt. J.R. Dean, the identities of those involved are being withheld at this time. He says the crash remains under investigation.
