Toccoa parents arrested in child abuse case

TOCCOA, Georgia. After being arrested Thursday afternoon following a child abuse investigation, a couple from Toccoa are now in jail.

Investigators in Stephens County were notified on June 24 that a child’s parents had reportedly physically mistreated them in their house.

According to a news release from Stephens County Sheriff Rusty Fulbright, investigators filed for and were granted a search warrant for the suspect’s home on Ed Davis Boulevard after gathering evidence supporting the complaint.

Fulbright claims that the warrant was carried out by the Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit on June 26 at 3:26 p.m. James Griffin Jr., 37, and Natasha Griffin, 41, were taken into custody by deputies on the spot.

Under the Family Violence Act, the Griffins are accused with both first- and second-degree battery and cruelty to children.

The Stephens County Jail received bookings for James and Natasha Griffin. On a $31,000 bond apiece, they were still in custody as of Friday night, June 27.
