Teacher from St. Augustine charged with sharing child pornography online

Federal prosecutors have arrested and charged a St. Augustine High School teacher with disseminating materials on child sexual abuse.

An FBI special agent wrote a probable cause statement accusing Ryan Bennett Segura of exchanging sexually graphic videos with someone online last year.

The allegation, which accused Segura of disseminating pictures of children engaging in sexually explicit behavior, included the paper.

Segura was taken into custody on Tuesday. Prosecutors claimed he had not received the necessary medical clearance to appear in federal court on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Segura’s LinkedIn profile, he has been employed at the prestigious private Catholic school since mid-2021 and serves as both the head track and field coach and a religion teacher at St. Augustine.

According to the account, he was previously employed by the Diocese of San Diego in Vista as a middle school teacher.

Ryan Segura, a 2016 graduate, is listed under the teaching section of a 2025 St. Augustine graduation program.

We are extremely concerned about Ryan Segura’s arrest and have put him on administrative leave until an investigation is conducted, according to a statement from Ed Hearn, president of St. Augustine’s office. The FBI is working with us. As of the now, law enforcement has informed us that they do not think any Saintsmen were impacted. However, we will be looking into this on our own. As we continue to think and pray for everyone involved in this crisis, we will provide any information as it becomes available.

The probable cause statement states that the arrest of another guy in Denver last November marked the start of the Segura investigation.

The statement said that after examining the Denver man’s electronic devices, they found he had been trading videos and conversing with Segura.

The FBI’s Denver Division identified Segura, (a) a teacher and resident of San Diego County, in the Southern District of California, as the likely user who had communicated with the Denver subject after months of forensics and subpoena results examination. According to the statement, this connection was found after investigators were able to tie Segura’s phone number to the social media account.

According to the statement, Segura later acknowledged to law officials that he was the user of the social media account that shared and received content on child sexual assault with the Denver subject.

Segura further acknowledged in the statement that he watches this kind of content every few months, although he says he stopped around March 2025.
