Suspect in Father Stabbing Case Appears Before Judge in Greater Cincinnati

CHEVIOT, Ohio – A 21-year-old man accused of stabbing his father in the neck made his first court appearance Saturday morning.

Danyou’ll Mimes was arraigned on charges of felonious assault and domestic violence.

Officers responded to an apartment on North Bend Road after the victim called 911 on Friday. The father reported that his son attempted to stab him to death. During the call, he said, “I thought I was dead.”

Authorities used a canine unit to track down Mimes in a backyard on Glenmore.

The search led to the closure of several streets and Harvest Home Park.

Emergency responders transported the victim to UC Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

During the court appearance at the Hamilton County Courthouse, prosecutors outlined the charges, citing witness statements and physical evidence from the scene. Taylor appeared via video from the county jail, wearing a standard-issue jumpsuit and speaking only to confirm his name and acknowledge the charges against him.

Judge Megan Lively set Taylor’s bond at $250,000 and ordered him to have no contact with his father should he be released. “This case involves an act of extreme violence within the home, and the court views it with the utmost seriousness,” Lively said.

Taylor’s public defender entered a not guilty plea on his behalf and declined to comment further, citing the ongoing investigation. The defense also indicated they may seek a mental health evaluation before the next hearing.

Neighbors described the family as quiet but noted recent tension. “You never think something like this could happen next door,” said one neighbor who asked not to be named. “We just hope his father makes a full recovery.”

Taylor is scheduled to appear again in court later this month for a preliminary hearing. If convicted, he could face several years in prison under Ohio’s felony assault statutes.

Police say the investigation is still active, and additional charges could be filed depending on the victim’s condition and the results of forensic testing.

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Colerain Township Police Department.
