Steele Fire now 85% contained; crews continuing work

On Thursday, crews made further success in containing the growth of a wildfire that burned about 28 acres of hilly terrain close to Steele Canyon High School. The fire forced evacuations, but there were no reported injuries or building damage.

Cal Fire reports that the fire started just before 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday off Star Acres Drive, close to Steele Canyon Road, in Rancho San Diego.

According to fire officials, as of 7 a.m. Thursday, the fire was 85% contained.

The area will be cleaned up by three engines and one hand crew. If the weather cooperates, we should have the fire completely contained by today’s end, a Cal Fire public relations officer told City News Service.
