Atlanta (AP) Sean Murphy blasted a grand slam and Spencer Schwellenbach struck out a career-high 12 as the Atlanta Braves overcame a humiliating defeat to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-1 on Saturday night.
In seven innings, Schwellenbach (7-4) allowed one run, three hits, and one walk. Out of 90 pitches, he threw 64 for strikes.
Murphy had a double and was 2 for 4. His tenth home run of the season came in the seventh inning.
The Braves were shut out in their last two games, including a 13-0 loss in the series opener on Friday night, but Austin Riley went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Nick Allen had a run-scoring single.
In five innings pitched for the Phillies, Jess Luzardo (7-4) allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks. He stranded five runners and struck out seven to keep his team in the game.
In the sixth inning, Alec Bohm singled to trim Atlanta’s lead to 2-1, but Nick Castellanos went out with two on to end the inning.
With Michael Harris II slumping, the Braves started Eli White in center field. Harris is hitting even though he started all but one game this season.212. White’s run total was 0 for 3.

With one out in the seventh, Murphy’s grand slam opened the score at 2-1. For his second career slam and the Braves’ first of the season, he blasted Jordan Romano’s first pitch 455 feet to left field. It followed successive singles by Riley, Ozzie Albies, and Marcell Ozuna.

With Atlanta’s first-inning single, Matt Olson’s on-base streak reached a career-high 29 games.
