At PayPal Park on Saturday, San Diego Wave FC defeated Bay FC 2-1, with goals from Kimmi Ascanio and Kenza Dali in the second half.
The victory set a new club record and increased the Wave’s (8-3-5, 29 pts) unbeaten road streak to six games.
After both games concluded in draws on Friday and Saturday, San Diego is now one point ahead of Orlando and Washington Spirit in second place in the NWSL rankings.
According to a Wave FC news release, San Diego scored in the 52nd minute following a scoreless first half. Gia Corley began the process by combining with Delphine Cascarino and then feeding Adriana Leon externally.
Perle Morroni, a defender, was in the box when Leon’s far post cross struck her, but the ball fell to Ascanio, who calmly scored her fourth goal of the year.
In the 64th minute, Dali took the ball up field and played Leon inside the box, giving San Diego a two-goal lead. Dali scored her third goal of the season after Leon gave it back to her. Her first-time effort was well placed and went into the nearside top corner.
In the 75th minute, a handball in the area earned the home team a penalty, which Caroline Conti converted from the spot to give Bay FC (4-7-5, 17 points) the advantage. However, the home team didn’t get much closer.
On August 24, Wave FC will host Racing Louisville in San Diego at 5 p.m. as part of the club’s yearly Pride Night. The game will be televised locally on KUSI and streamed live on Paramount+ and NWSL+.

Notes: At just 17, Ascanio is the NWSL’s second-leading teenage scorer, trailing only 19-year-old Seattle’s Emeri Adames (5). With 16 goals in the second half this season, San Diego leads the league. This season, Morroni recorded four assists, which is second on the team after Cascarino’s five. Her second assist of the year was recorded by Leon. In the 82nd and 94th minutes, respectively, midseason additions Laurina Fazer and Dudinha made their club debuts as substitutes.
