San Diego County resident who died at Vista jail was Corey Michael Dean, 43

Authorities Tuesday publicly identified an inmate who

died of unknown causes

last weekend at Vista Detention Facility.

Deputies performing routine safety checks at the South Melrose Drive jail found Corey Michael Dean, 43, unresponsive in his cell at about 3 a.m. Sunday, according to the

San Diego County Sheriff’s Office

.

Jail staff and paramedics tried in vain to revive Dean before pronouncing him dead at the scene, sheriff’s Lt. Juan Marquez said.

Dean, a resident of San Diego County, had been in custody since June 15 on suspicion of burglary and felony vandalism, according to Marquez.

A ruling on the cause of Dean’s death was on hold pending completion of postmortem examinations.
