Retired Firefighter Faces Charges for Alleged Sexual Assaults in Prince George’s County

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. —

A retired Prince George’s County firefighter was arrested in connection to the rape of a junior firefighter in the 1990s.

The allegations came to light in July 2024 and the Prince George’s County Police Department opened a case.

Upon investigation, police said that the victim was sexually assaulted on multiple occasions between 1991 and 1996 when they were between 13 and 17 years old. The assaults occurred at multiple locations, including the suspect’s home and the Hyattsville Fire Station, police said.

The suspect was identified as 61-year-old John Inman of Myrtle Beach, SC. He retired from the Prince George’s County Fire Department in 2017.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Inman’s arrest on May 12. He turned himself in on May 17. He is charged with second-degree rape, child abuse-custodian and related charges.
