Ranger Suárez shines again as Phillies edge Braves 2-1 to take series

Atlanta (AP) The Philadelphia Phillies won the three-game series against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday after Ranger Surez pitched seven solid innings.

Su rez (7-2) allowed only four hits and one run. He reduced his ERA to 2.00 by striking out eight and walking one.

Matt Strahm recorded his fifth Phillies save, and Orion Kerkering pitched a scoreless eighth.

Bryson Scott came home on a sacrifice fly to center from Trea Turner after Otto Kemp doubled into the left field corner in the fifth inning, giving the Phillies a 2-1 lead.

Spencer Strider (3-6) lost against the Phillies for the second time in ten career decisions despite having another excellent start. In seven innings, he walked three and struck out four while giving up two runs on five hits.

Sean Murphy, the catcher, crushed a 451-foot home run to center field in the second inning, becoming the only Brave to cause damage against Su Rez. In Su Rez’s seven innings, no other Brave made it to second base.

The Phillies, who lead the NL East, had two hits from Nick Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber was 2 for 3 with a walk.

Matt Olson, the first baseman for the Braves, went 2 for 4 and increased his on-base streak to 30 games, which is the longest active run in the major leagues.

In the ninth inning, the Braves had runners on first and third with two outs, but Strahm ended the game by getting Stuart Fairchild to fly out to center field.

Key stat

The longest run of quality starts by a Phillies pitcher since Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels both achieved it in 2013 is Surez’s ten consecutive starts.

Phillies: On Monday, RHP Zack Wheeler (7-3, 2.45) will go up against the Padres to start a three-game home series. A starter has not yet been announced by San Diego.

Braves: In the first game of a three-game series in Atlanta, rookie Didier Fuentes (0-2, 10.80) will start for the third time in his career against Angels LHP Tyler Anderson (2-5. 4.41).
