Rabun County municipal races set for November; Dillard and Tallulah Falls elections canceled

On the ballot for November 4, voters in Rabun County will witness contested municipal races in Clayton, Mountain City, and Sky Valley. All of the candidates qualified without any resistance, so the elections in Tallulah Falls and Dillard have been canceled.

Tiger’s whole city council, including the mayor, will be up for election in two years, hence there are no elections this year.

Rabun County’s municipal elections are all nonpartisan. Check out who is currently competing and who has already won.

Clayton

After previous Mayor Kurt Cannon resigned earlier this year, Clayton will have a new mayor this autumn. Roy Quilliams is expected to assume the position after qualifying without any opposition. There are also two municipal council seats up for grabs. Mark Gregory Fairchild and Channing Watts will compete for the Post 1 City Council seat. For Post 2, Colt. Woodall has no opponents.

Dillard

Dillard’s municipal election has been canceled because there are no contenders for any city posts.

Claude Dillard, the current mayor, will remain in that position. Tremaine E. Wilson was recently elected to the Post 5 City Council, and Jeffrey W. Harris will take up the Post 3 City Council position.

Mountain City

This November, voters in Mountain City will decide on one disputed council seat. Both William R. Fountain and Ralph Welch are running for the Post 3 City Council position. There is no challenge to incumbent Mayor Brenda S. Hooper.

Sky Valley

With fierce contests for mayor and municipal council, Sky Valley is this year’s political hotspot.

Seven candidates are vying for three vacant city council seats, and incumbent Hollie Steil is up against Benita Cotton-Orr for the position of mayor.

Bruce K. Turner and Daniel McAfee, two incumbents on the Sky Valley council, are attempting to retain two of the three seats that will be up for election. There are five more running. They are Jonathan Smith, Jesse Price, Beth Quarles Pence, Dee Van Camp, and Carey Alexander Beasley.

Voters in the Sky Valley have the option to select up to three council candidates. Whoever receives the most votes wins.

Tallulah Falls

Tallulah Falls will not have a municipal election this year, just like Dillard. Elections were held for two Tallulah Falls City Council seats. Council candidates Scott Augustine and Gerald Michael Urpschot are declared elected since there is no opposition.
