An 18-year-old kayaker on Grapevine Lake in Texas was killed over Memorial Day weekend after being struck by a jet ski whose driver fled the scene, according to police.
According to the Grapevine Police Department, the incident occurred on Sunday evening when a jet ski carrying a driver and a passenger collided with the victim, Ava Moore.
Grapevine Lake is a reservoir in north Texas, about 20 miles northwest of Dallas and northeast of Fort Worth.
According to police, the passenger on the jet ski remained on scene to be interviewed by first responders, while the driver fled with an adult male.
According to Grapevine Police, the driver and the man collided with another vehicle as they drove away.
Police are investigating the related automotive hit-and-run incident, while Texas Game Wardens are in charge of the investigation into Moore’s death at the lake.
Grapevine Police issued an image of the alleged jet ski driver and asked anyone with information about the incident to contact detectives at [email protected].
