Phillies have 17 hits, 5 home runs in 13-0 rout of Braves

Atlanta (AP) The Phillies defeated the Atlanta Braves 13-0 on Friday night, breaking out of an offensive rut thanks to two of their five home runs from Trae Turner.

Before coming to Atlanta, the Phillies were swept by the Houston Astros and only managed one run in three games. Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos, and Otto Kemp also blasted home runs for the Phillies.

A storm came just before the scheduled first pitch, causing the game to be postponed for two hours and nineteen minutes. After the delay, Philadelphia chose to start Tanner Banks and throw a bullpen game, while the Braves continued to use Bryce Elder, even though Phillies starter Mick Abel had warmed up.

In two plus innings, Elder (2-5) gave up four walkoffs and eight hits, allowing the Phillies to score 10 runs (nine earned). Three home runs were given up by Elder.

Before being replaced by Taijuan Walker (3-5), who pitched two innings, Banks pitched two innings. Alan Rangel pitched the final five, giving up one walk and six hits.

In the third inning, Schwarber and Kemp both hit home runs. Schwarber’s was his 25th of the season, and Kemp’s was his first of his career.

J.T. Realmuto was 3 for 4 with a walk, Turner was 4 for 6 with four runs scored, and Schwarber finished 1 for 3 with two walks and three runs scored.

Matt Olson, the first baseman for the Braves, extended MLB’s longest active on-base streak to 28 games with a single in the fifth inning.

This season, the Braves gave up the most runs in a game—13.
