No drunk driving arrests at Chula Vista DUI checkpoint

At a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint in Chula Vista on Friday night, no one was arrested for drunk driving; nevertheless, police reported on Saturday that multiple citations had been given.

From 6 p.m. until midnight, the checkpoint was located in the 300 block of East H Street. According to Sgt. Anthony Molina of the Chula Vista Police Department, eleven tickets were given, six of which were for driving without a license or with a suspended license.

According to Molina, 1,189 of the 4,193 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint were examined, and one was seized. A field sobriety test was passed by two drivers.

The locations of DUI checkpoints are chosen based on the number of crashes involving impaired driving that have been reported. A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, funded the checkpoint.
