Law enforcement is stepping up efforts to combat driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol as Labor Day draws near and back-to-school celebrations get underway.
Through Labor Day, September 1, more officers from the National City Police Department will be on patrol in search of suspected drunk drivers.
The nationwide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Overenforcement campaign includes the extra initiatives.
Additionally, the National City Police Department has declared that it will conduct a DUI checkpoint in the 3000 block of National City Boulevard on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
The department stated in a release that although driving while intoxicated is a serious traffic safety issue, it is not only tied to alcohol use.

A person’s ability to drive may also be hampered by prescription pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter medications, and cannabis products.
Anyone who intends to consume alcohol or take medication that has a driving warning label should arrange for alternative transportation, according to the police department. You may find more details here.
