Mt. Airy calls for special election to fill Tullis’ council seat

A resolution calling for a special election to fill Councilman Adam Tullis’ seat was approved by the Mount Airy Town Council on Monday, July 7. In May, Tullis, who had served on the council for 14 years, presented his resignation. On August 17, his resignation will become effective.

In the next election, Tullis intends to run for mayor, according to Town Clerk Sheri Berrong. William Ray McAllister, the current mayor, declared earlier this year that he would be leaving the office after 29 years in office.

Adam will have been out of office long enough to lawfully assume the position of mayor if he wins, according to Berrong, who stated that qualifying for the election begins on August 18.

On November 4, which also happens to be the statewide election for the Georgia Public Service Commission, the special election will be held.
