Michael Harris II’s grand slam caps 9-run fourth as Braves rally to beat Mets 11-6

Michael Harris II hit a grand slam, according to the AP.The Braves defeated the struggling New York Mets 11–6 on Wednesday night thanks to a nine-run explosion in the fourth inning, which capped Atlanta’s greatest inning in nearly five years.

The Braves fought back against David Peterson and Reed Garrett (3-5) after falling behind 6-0 in a game that was postponed for ninety-five minutes due to weather. Before Marcell Ozuna welcomed Garrett with an RBI single in the fourth, Peterson gave up Jurickson Profar’s three-run double and gave up four free passes, including a bases-loaded walk of Nick Allen.

Harris launched a 417-foot shot to straightaway center three batters later. The Braves’ nine-run inning was their largest since the second inning of their 29-9 victory over the Miami Marlins on September 9, 2020, when they scored 11 runs.

In the sixth, Ozuna blasted a home run that scored two runs.

After Carlos Carrasco, Aaron Bummer (2-2), the first of five Braves relievers, pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings.

In two innings, Carrasco allowed six runs to be scored. Juan Soto blasted a two-run homer at 407 feet and Jeff McNeil had an RBI double in the second inning after Pete Alonso had a two-run single and Cedric Mullins lofted a sacrifice fly in the first.

In a season-low 3 1/3 innings pitched, Peterson gave up a season-high six runs. The Mets have suffered 12 of 14 losses.

It was Harris’s first grand slam since August 14 of last year.

Key stat

It was the ninth occasion in the team’s history that the Mets allowed nine or more runs in an inning, and the first since the Philadelphia Phillies scored ten runs in the first inning of a 14-3 victory on April 16, 2019.
