Memorial Day morning gunshot at Cascades Park in Tallahassee injures two people

A Memorial Day early-morning gunfire in Cascades Park injured two persons.

On May 26, shortly after 4 a.m., the Tallahassee Police Department responded to a report of a drive-by shooting near the city’s crown jewel park on the 1000 block of South Gadsden Street.

While the investigation is still in its early stages, a TPD Watch Commander informed the Democrat that officers decided the incident was not a drive-by shooting.

He was unable to share any information regarding the case’s facts or victims because it is still open and active.

He stated, however, that investigators decided that the public is not in danger.

“At this time we have no reason to believe that a suspect is at large,” added the police officer.

According to Democrat sources, one individual was grazed during the gunfire, but the other sustained a more serious injury.

The watch commander declined to elaborate on the degree of the injuries, but confirmed that both were taken to the hospital.

“The injuries are believed to be non-life threatening at this time,” the doctor stated.

According to a Tallahassee Democrat review of gun violence, 29 severe city and county shootings have resulted in 10 deaths and at least 22 injuries in 2025.
