Medical examiner identifies 5 people killed in accidents, including 2 in South Bay

The names of five people who died in traffic incidents in the San Diego area, including three who were hit by cars, have been made public by authorities.

According to the county Medical Examiner’s Office, Bisael Lopez Hernandez, 46, was working on the roadside when a small car swerved off the road in the 4200 block of Bonita Road in Bonita just before 1:30 p.m. on Monday. He passed away right there.

A pedestrian was murdered at Pacific Beach on Sunday after being struck by a car. Just before 3 p.m., Alpine resident Jorge Garcia Jr. was struck by an eastbound SUV while crossing the street at Grand Avenue and Kendall Street, the medical examiner said. Garcia, 31, passed away before paramedics could transport him to a medical facility.

Agustina Z. Acosta, 87, of Chula Vista was struck by a car in a parking garage on July 22. A little after 11 a.m., a driver’s pickuptruck struck Acosta as he was turning a bend in the building on the 300 block of H Street. She was taken by paramedics to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, where shortly after her arrival, physicians declared her dead.

In the second incident, a 19-year-old biker named Thom Nguyen was killed in an accident on Interstate 5 at the southern boundary of Balboa Park early on Saturday. Shortly after midnight, Nguyen lost control of the vehicle near Sixth Avenue on the northbound side of the expressway, causing it to collide with a roadside barrier.

After tumbling onto the road, the rider was hit by a car. He passed away right there.

Additionally, according to the medical examiner, Tiffany Zamora, 23, of San Diego, was driving a sedan in the 700 block of Shadowridge Drive in Vista at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Friday when it swerved over a center median and collided with a tree.

After being transported by paramedics to Palomar Medical Center, physicians declared Zamora dead around two hours later.
