On August 2, the 47th annual Haute with Heart Fashion Show & Luncheon was held at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront by St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center.
London Calling, this year’s theme, honored British culture and fashion. Guests could enjoy a champagne reception, live music, and boutique shopping as the day got underway. Ginger Poutous was the honorary chair, and Robbin Kulek Lockie and John Lockie were the host chairs.
The luncheon was held in the ballroom after that. The event was emceed by Anna Couvrette. NBC 7 News San Diego’s Audra Stafford served as the auctioneer. Mariela Contreras sang the national anthem, and Sr. Virginia Rodee, RSCJ, gave the invocation. St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC) CEO Debra Emerson acknowledged and thanked everyone.
Beverley Ireland, who has kindly contributed to the festivities for the past 25 years, received recognition for her exquisite floral arrangements. Using properly opened red roses, she crafted sophisticated centerpieces for every table this year. With a traditional Beef Wellington appetizer, the lunch menu mirrored the British flair. Anthony Wardlow was the featured artist, and the invitation and promotional materials featured his drawing of Big Ben. Every visitor was given a card with his artwork on it.

Shauna Davis, the 2025 student representative, received this year’s SMSC Student Spotlight. After SMSC students strutted the runway as the first act of the theatrical fashion show, Kristi Brooks produced an exuberant performance. After working with celebrities in Los Angeles, Brooks now brings her artistic abilities to San Diego. Macy’s and other local companies like Satori and Lena Trotsko supplied the show’s attire.
Adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities are empowered by St. Madeleine Sophie. The event’s whole revenues go toward funding the center’s programming, which include computer labs, art classes, vocational training, a Special Olympics team, and gardening and cooking.
