Sugarfish, a well-known sushi restaurant in Los Angeles, will open in San Diego’s Little Italy district early next year, the city announced Tuesday.
The company’s first outlet outside of Los Angeles, Orange County, or New York will be located at 2100 Kettner Blvd.
“We are thrilled to introduce Sugarfish to the Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego,” co-founder Lele Massimini stated. We don’t create a second restaurant merely to open another one; rather, we do it because expansion allows us to obtain better fish and provide our customers with tastier sushi.

Sugarfish, Nozawa Bar, and KazuNori are all products of the 2008-founded Sushi Nozawa Group. The restaurant offers sushi prepared the Nozawa way, which is a term used to describe sushi made with simple, fresh, and seasonal ingredients.
The four Trust Me set meals, which are served in an omakase fashion and feature the best fish from across the globe, crisp nori, and warm, loosely packed rice, serve as the restaurant’s mainstays.
The secret to our success, according to co-founder Tom Nozawa, is that our customers understand the difference between decent and great sushi. The simplicity and fish quality speak for itself.

The Little Italy restaurant, which is slated to open in the spring of 2026, was inspired by building designer Cliff May’s ranch-style residences in California. According to a statement from the company, the 40-seat eatery will have exposed structural columns, natural concrete floors, and wide windows that showcase harbor sunsets.
The project was designed by A-RTK architect Robert Tsurimoto Kirsten.
