All-Star Padres At Petco Park on Thursday, the team defeated the Diamondbacks 4-3 thanks to single home runs from Fernando Tatis, Jr. and Manny Machado.
The 16th home run each player has hit this season came from Machado and Tatis, Jr., an All-Star starter and a reserve, respectively. Tatis has been struggling, but Machado has been on fire; this was his third home run in the last seven games. He hadn’t hit a home run in fifteen games.
Arizona managed to score two runs in the third inning after the game started with two scoreless innings. The first came when Jake McCarthy drove in from third base on a sacrifice fly to right by Jose Herrera. Then, after a sacrifice fly to center by Corbin Carroll, Alek Thomas scored from third.

However, Tatis’ single-strike homer to right field later in the eighth sliced the margin in half.
After Jake Cronenworth ground out to first, Jackson Merrill scored from third to tie the score 2-2 for San Diego in the fourth.
In the eighth inning, Tatis came very close to scoring a second run, but Jake McCarthy grabbed his deep bomb to center. He sprang, stretched, and twisted to catch the ball before it could cross the wall.

Two men were on base when Padres pitcher Randy V. Squez was pulled in the fifth inning after giving up four walks. Adrian Morejon entered the game, got out of the jam, and won.
This is because Machado led off in the bottom of the eighth and gave the Padres a 3-2 lead with a single homer to left on his first swing.
Juan Morillo replaced Eduardo Rodriguez as Arizona’s pitcher during a mound visit. Xander Bogaert doubled on a ground ball to left that drove in Gavin Sheets from first base, but the move didn’t work out as San Diego increased their lead.
Geraldo Perdomo doubled on a ground ball to right in the seventh, and Corbin Carroll of Arizona scored from second.
