Holliday’s 2-run homer helps Rogers finally beat Braves as Orioles complete sweep with 2-1 win

Atlanta (AP) The Orioles defeated the Braves 2-1 on Sunday to clinch a three-game sweep, and Trevor Rogers stopped his career-long winless streak against Atlanta by giving up four hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings after Jackson Holliday’s two-run homer gave Baltimore an early lead.

Rogers (2-0) walked two and struck out six. In the ninth inning, Seranthony Dom nguez gave up a home run to Sean Murphy with one out. He then gave up a single to Ozzie Albies before making his second save.

In nine career starts versus Atlanta, Rogers, who was acquired by Baltimore from Miami last July, had a 5.57 ERA and a 0-7 record.

Outfielders Ronald Acua Jr. and Michael Harris II, as well as designated hitter Marcell Ozuna, were left off the starting lineup for the 11:35 a.m. start by Braves manager Brian Snitker.

With four consecutive losses, the Braves (39–50) are now 11 games below.500 for the season.

Key moment

Among Holliday’s four hits was a home run off Grant Holmes (4-8) in the third inning that just missed the brick wall in right field.

After being placed on the 10-day disabled list due to a sprained right knee, Gary S. Sanchez became the fourth Baltimore catcher to lose to injury. He joined Maverick Handley (concussion), Adley Rutschman (left oblique strain), and Chadwick Tromp (lower back strain) on the injured list.

By acquiring Alex Jackson from the New York Yankees for the allocation of an international signing bonus pool and a player to be named or cash, the Orioles increased their depth at catcher.
