The Commission for Public Higher Education (CPHE), a new accrediting organization established by public universities, for public universities, is being launched by Georgia in collaboration with five other Southern public university systems.
Higher education systems in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and the Texas A&M University System are all part of the multi-state consortium. According to consortium leaders, their collective goal is to create a more transparent, targeted approach to accrediting that prioritizes student outcomes, academic excellence, and operational effectiveness.
Sonny Perdue, Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, stated, “Working with neighboring states allows us to put resources where they make the biggest difference, and I look forward to the success of an effort that increases accountability and drives meaningful innovation.”
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), which now accredits universities like the University of Georgia, has come under increasing fire from conservative leaders.
On behalf of their students, CPHE will make sure that colleges and universities meet and maintain academic quality and operational excellence, according to a statement from the Georgia Board of Regents.
