A shooting in Lavonia that injured a person is being looked at by the GBI. After a day-long manhunt following the event, police arrested two individuals, according to officials.
Koran Norman and Justice Spencer were accused of serious assault by the officers. Late Thursday evening, police were able to secure arrest warrants for them.
Officers found both individuals inside Lavonia’s city borders within minutes of issuing the warrants. According to a statement from Lavonia Police Department, both people were apprehended without any more incidents following a brief foot pursuit.
Investigation underway
On August 7, the gunshot happened in the middle of the afternoon, which led to a lockdown in the area. While officials from several state and local jurisdictions combed the area, authorities urged people to remain indoors and keep their doors locked.
Police on the site received assistance from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, and the Georgia State Patrol. According to Lavonia Police, an armed individual was involved in the incident. As is customary in officer-involved shootings, the department handed the case over to the GBI for an impartial inquiry.
The injured person is in non-critical condition, according to the police. While the internal and GBI investigations are ongoing, the two officers who were involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave in accordance with department procedure.
In a formal statement, the department asked for the community’s patience while the GBI carries out an exhaustive and impartial assessment.
As the investigation progresses, more charges can be brought.
