In Friday’s 28-7 scrimmage loss to Madison County, Franklin County recovered from some rust and displayed several quirks that will be present in this year’s playbook.
A 0-0 first quarter established the tone early on, as neither team’s defense seemed eager to concede anything. The Lions’ Ramsey Fulbright recorded consecutive sacks in a significant stop for the Franklin defense, and Elliot Harbin recorded a few tackles.
Keyes Harbin had a first-down pass to Mason Davis, and Nava Ware had a crucial third-down convert. But late in the half, the offensive had a costly mistake that cost them the ball. The ball was torn out and recovered by DJ Appleby after the Red Raiders reached the tenth.
Franklin opened the score on the first drive in the second half with bagels on the board at halftime. Carson Cheek gave the team a 7-0 lead with a 47-yard touchdown run.
Madison County knotted it up moments later when Dashun Brown rumbled for a 63-yard touchdown, as if it gave the teams license to score.
Keyes Harbin was replaced at quarterback by Knox Whitworth, who kept the ball moving with third-down picks to Davis and Jett Whitworth. His next shot was on target, but Matthew Strickland tore it from Davis’s hands, changing the outcome.
Madison quarterback With the Red Raiders on the 23-yard line at the end of the third, Trynt Latimore fired a deep ball that Brayden Clark amazingly juggled and grabbed. On the second play of the fourth quarter, Kardez White reached pay soil after racing past the tackles, giving Madison a 14–7 lead.
White padded the lead to 21-7 with a scoop-n-score on the next possession. The Red Raiders scored 28-7 thanks to a 2-yard touchdown run from Braxton Sorrow, who had just put the offense in position with a tremendous run.
