NEW ORLEANS — Three inmates accused of escaping from the Orleans Justice Center have been apprehended, according to the Louisiana State Police.
According to the Office of Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, Lenton Vanburen was taken back into custody on Monday, May 26.
A social media statement from Murrill’s office claims that Vanburen was pulled up in Baton Rouge.
“I’m very proud of our DOJ Fugitive Apprehension Unit’s work with our partners in the Baton Rouge Police Department and Louisiana State Police,” the post continues.
The Louisiana State Police confirmed Monday night that Leo Tate and Jermaine Donald were taken into custody in Walker County, Texas, by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office issued a statement saying, “We extend our sincere thanks to the Louisiana State Police, who continue to lead this manhunt, as well as the United States Marshals Service, Baton Rouge Police Department, and Texas Department of Public Safety for their tireless commitment and swift action.”
On Friday, May 16, the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office stated that many inmates had escaped from the jail after they were discovered missing during a routine headcount about 8:30 a.m.
Two convicts, Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves remain at large.
