Fire destroys commercial building in Banks County; two firefighters treated for heat-related illness

LULA, Georgia. A 25,000-square-foot commercial storage building in Banks County was reduced to rubble by fire on Tuesday afternoon, sending one firefighter to the hospital.

At 4:38 p.m. on July 1, Banks County Fire and Emergency Services received a call at 733 Mount Sinai Road in Lula. Crews arrived to see the structure, which was used to store a variety of supplies and cars, completely engulfed in flames. One firefighter was sent to Northeast Georgia Medical Center due to heat exhaustion, Nichols said. They were released early on Wednesday morning after being listed as stable on Tuesday night. At the site, another firefighter received treatment for a heat-related ailment.

The LACI Fire Department and Jackson County CI Fire Department helped put out the fire. On the site, crews fought the fire and put out hot spots for almost eight hours.
