Georgia’s Hart County. On Lake Hartwell, a private dock, boat, and personal watercraft were all destroyed in an early Saturday morning fire. According to authorities, the incident did not result in any injuries.
The fire was reported to game wardens on July 5 at approximately 1:08 a.m. Responders discovered the wharf and ships completely submerged when they got there. According to Mark McKinnon of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, firefighters put out the last of the fire, but the boat and PWC were both burned to the waterline.
Additionally, the dock and any accessory kept there were deemed completely lost. There were no injuries recorded, and no one was on the dock at the time.
The homeowner informed rescuers that a boat battery was charging when the incident started, according to the Hart County incident Department.
The department urged the public to never leave battery charging equipment alone in a social media post after the incident. According to the post, fires like this can occur suddenly and without notice. Anything charging should always be closely watched, especially in close proximity to combustible objects.
Since the start of the July Fourth holiday, a number of boat fires have occurred in Northeast Georgia, the most recent of which was in Lake Hartwell. Boats exploded on Lake Lanier in Hall County and Lake Nottely in Union County on Friday, injuring fourteen persons in two different accidents.
