Feds gather outside Los Angeles building during Newsom speech

About a hundred federal agents gathered in front of the building to conduct an immigration operation, making at least one arrest, while Governor Gavin Newsom spoke Thursday afternoon about a Democratic Party plan to redistrict California.

After the tragedy, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass told reporters, “There’s no way this was a coincidence.”

In reaction to a Republican-led attempt in Texas spearheaded by President Donald Trump, Newsom on Thursday called for a special election on November 4 at the Japanese American National Museum in the downtown L.A. district of Little Tokyo.

Prior to Democrats launching a press conference where Newsom stood alongside a coalition of union leaders and California senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla, the governor had posted a campaign advertisement on social media.

The special election must be formally announced by state legislature, which they intend to do next week.

It is anticipated that the Democrats’ proposed plans will be made public on Friday. Next week, lawmakers intend to swiftly approve them.

In both chambers, Democrats have supermajorities.
