San Diego FC defeated Sporting KC 2-0 on Saturday, continuing their road run led by goals from Hirving Chucky Lozano and Anders Dreyer.
It was San Diego’s eighth road victory in their first season and their fifth in a row (15-7-4). In its last ten MLS games, San Diego has improved to 7-2-1.
Head coach Mikey Varas remarked, “I think it’s a credit to the guys, this road-performance mentality, that we can go and win everywhere.”
SDFC finished the evening alone at the top of the Western Conference as Vancouver FC lost to San Jose 2-1.
After receiving a little pass from Dreyer, the league’s top assister, Lozano scored in the twenty-third minute. He gave Sporting KC a 1-0 lead with a long, right-footed shot in the middle of the box that went past goalie John Pulskamp.
Regarding his work with Lozano, Dreyer stated, “We want to help each other.” Chucky is aware that I will constantly search for him when I have the ball because he excels at going in behind and, as we saw today, he scored a really good goal.
Dreyer sealed it with a left-footed punch from the middle of the box in the 70th minute.
Additionally, San Diego became the first team to achieve 50 goals during this year’s MLS regular season after Dreyer’s goal.
Goalkeeper CJ Dos Santos earned his eighth MLS regular season clean sheet.

Varas pointed out that the 2-0 victory wasn’t simple. What’s the difference? “We just had all 11 players low at the end of the game and found a way to close out a game where we had lost the momentum,” he said.
Having just suffered a 3-0 setback to Vancouver on July 26, Kansas City (6-13-6) had no luck against the best teams in the Western Conference.
Before starting three Leagues Cup games, SDFC defeated Nashville FC 1-0 at Snapdragon Stadium on July 25 to celebrate their return to MLS action.
When SDFC plays the San Jose Earthquakes at 4 p.m. on August 17, the team has an opportunity to stay hot on the road.
