DEA seizes 700-pound meth shipment in Gainesville

Following a traffic check involving a tractor-trailer in Gainesville, DEA officials claim to have prevented 700 pounds of methamphetamine from entering Atlanta.

According to the DEA, a tip that the drugs were concealed in the folds of cardboard boxes led to the massive drug bust. When the drugs crossed the border and were scanned by X-ray equipment, the crates hid the substances.

Rufino Perez and Andres Jasso Junior were accused of possessing meth with the intention of distributing it. Perez has been deported at least twice and is not a citizen of the United States. The medications are expected to be worth $4.5 million.
