Commerce Police host active shooter training at middle school

This week, several agencies from throughout the area came together for a collaborative readiness exercise at Commerce Middle School under the direction of the Commerce Police Department’s active shooter training.In the event of an active shooter, officers move in formation. With assistance from the Jackson County Emergency Services and the Commerce and West Jackson Fire Departments, officers from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson Police Department, Commerce Police Department, and Gainesville Police Department took part in the training. Enhancing coordination and fortifying reaction strategies in the case of an active shooter scenario are the objectives.During Commerce Police’s active shooter training this week, officers from many departments come together for a tactical debrief. The department emphasized that community relationships are essential to the success of such exercises and thanked Commerce City Schools for granting access to their site.

Multi-agency training like this, according to officials, helps guarantee a quicker and safer response, ultimately increasing the security of Jackson County and the City of Commerce.
