Cleveland DDA updated on plans for the downtown area

Projects that are anticipated to improve the downtown region are being reviewed by the Cleveland Downtown Development Authority. Since its reactivation in 2021, the authority has been actively assisting in the growth and promotion of the downtown Cleveland area.

A strategy plan including projects until 2030 was considered by the authority during its meeting on Thursday. These include beautifying initiatives and enhancing the visitor experience in downtown Cleveland. Plans are underway to bring the Downtown Merchants Alliance back to life.

Tom O. Bryant, the city’s director of economic development and planning, gave the audience an update on housing developments. According to O Bryant, on Friday, July 11, the first modular home for the West Jarrard Street housing project is anticipated to be delivered to the site.

“This is exciting news,” said Gary Adkins, chairman of the DDA Board. We’ve been waiting for the DDA to become involved in new developments and assist with housing; the affordability portion of it is truly a housing crisis. We are considering additional developments and have new initiatives already under way.

The group also learned that the old Glenda’s Restaurant property is under contract, with the buyer intending to run a restaurant there, and that a crosswalk is being planned near the Chick-fil-A on South Main Street.
