Cleanup continues in Habersham after Tuesday’s storm

Emergency crews in Habersham County responded to multiple reports of downed trees and power lines following

strong storms Tuesday evening

. As of early Wednesday, Habersham County E-911 reported road department crews were out working to clear debris.

Dispatchers said one of the largest impacts was reported on Alec Mountain Road, where a large tree fell across the road, bringing down power lines. Just before dawn on Wednesday, June 18, around 300 Habersham EMC members and Georgia Power customers in Habersham remained without electricity.

Additional tree-related hazards were reported on GA 197 near Thornwood Subdivision in Mt. Airy, where a tree partially blocked the roadway. A tree was also reported partially blocking Highway 17 at Daniel Road in Demorest.

Now Habersham received reports of additional trouble spots from readers, including a large tree down across Mud Creek Road near the Habersham/Hall County line and one down on Alley’s Chapel Road in northern Habersham. Trees also fell on a house in Turnerville and two houses in the Windridge Road subdivision north of Clarkesville.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Crews spent the evening clearing debris and working to restore electricity.

More rain

is expected on Wednesday. Authorities urge drivers to remain vigilant, as trees may still fall due to the saturated soil and the possibility of more rain.
