The Clarkesville Police Department has announced increased enforcement in school zones and a new traffic pattern for Lockwood Street.
In Clarkesville, Lockwood roadway, which runs from West Water Street to Monroe Street (GA 115), is currently a one-way roadway.
According to Clarkesville Police Chief Danny Clouatre, the modification is a component of a continuous endeavor to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow. He advises drivers to take additional time to get used to the new road markings and signage and to pay great attention to them.
It is recommended that commuters and locals spread the word about this information to other people who visit the area regularly.
School zone safety enforcement begins August 8
Additionally, starting on Thursday, August 8, the first day of classes, Clarkesville police officers will start doing more patrols and enforcement in school zones in an effort to boost safety.
Key Safety Reminders:
Decreased Speed Limits: During designated hours, speed limits in school zones are rigorously enforced.
No Cell Phone Use: Distracted driving is extremely dangerous, especially when it occurs close to schools. Don’t take your eyes off the road.
Pedestrian Right-of-Way: Pay attention to kids crossing the street and heed traffic signals and crossing guards.Danny Clouatre, the chief of police of Clarkesville (Daniel Purcell/now Habersham)
Bus Safety: Never drive by a school bus that has stopped and its lights are flashing. It’s risky and against the law.
Officers will be closely monitoring school zones and issuing penalties for infractions, according to Chief Clouatre.
“This effort is about protecting lives, not just about enforcement,” he stated. Please contribute to the safety of our community.
