The
San Diego City Council
is recruiting a new executive director for the city’s
Commission on Police Practices
, the independent oversight committee that reviews
San Diego Police Department
conduct.
The commission’s next executive director will take over for Bart Miesfeld, who resigned from the post in January and continues to serve as its interim executive director.
Applicants are expected to undergo three rounds of interviews, with a final interview by the city council and candidate selection expected around October.

“We begin this recruitment process to find the best candidate to oversee the voter-mandated mission of the Commission on Police Practices,” said Council President Joe LaCava, who chairs the committee. “This individual will manage the Office of the CPP, support the CPP Commissioners, and assist in coordinating with the public, elected officials, San Diego Police Department and the media.”
The city has also opened nominations for six open CPP commissioner seats on the 25-member body.
The six vacant seats include:
- Representatives for districts 5, 7, and 8
- Low- and Moderate-Income
- At-Large
- Youth
Commissioner nominations will run until Aug. 1 at 5 p.m. and according to LaCava’s office, those nominations will go before the city council possibly as early as September.
